About the Breed

The story of the Savannah

The first known Savannah was born in 1986 to a domestic mother and an African serval father. The kitten was named Savannah, a name that later became the name of the breed.

Patrick Kelly and Joyce Sroufe helped develop the breed and wrote its original standard. The International Cat Association (TICA) accepted the Savannah for registration in 2001 and granted it championship status in 2012.

The number tells you how many generations separate the Savannah from its closest serval ancestor. Check the pedigree to confirm it.

  • F1 · One parent is a serval.
  • F2 · One grandparent is a serval.
  • F3 · One great-grandparent is a serval.
